Staff Roles and Qualifications

Carol Darmody has 18 years of experience as an English as a Second Language teacher, a job club facilitator, and an academic upgrading instructor in Lethbridge and Vancouver. She is a fully qualified language benchmarks assessor having received her training in 2006. Carol has an interest in languages, and she speaks Spanish. Carol assesses Citizenship and Immigration clients here in our Lethbridge office and Brooks as well as being part of the team that assesses private companies' employees in their workplace. Carol attended a CLBPT Writing Calibration Session in December 2007, a Literacy Assessment Session in 2008, and completed her ELTPA training in August 2008.

Linda is our Administrative Assistant, bringing 30 years of office organization to our business. She has lived abroad and has been a student in the second language teaching program at the University of Saskatchewan. Linda provides support to clients and assessors and is our main contact for new clients. Linda is an accredited invigilator through Athabasca University, and SALAS is an approved site for all AU exams.

Cheryl has extensive teaching and international work experience. Her academic background is in biology and microbiology in adult education. Cheryl has been involved in many international projects in South Africa, Belize, Ethiopia, Ghana, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Papua New Guinea etc.

Judy brings with her extensive experience instructing in the adult ESL classroom, as well as almost 20 years as director of a college English Language Centre, work which encompassed supervision of curriculum design, assessment, programming (for LINC, funded immigrants, international students and groups), marketing, staffing and fiscal management. Through this position, she worked for 10 years evaluating English programs in schools in Mexico and providing related teacher training. She is a former President of the boards of Lethbridge Immigrant Settlement Association, Alberta Teachers of English as a Second Language, and Languages Canada and is a qualified CLBPT assessor.

Sue has 25 years of academic teaching in Human Services and Business faculties, and at present she is an Academic Coordinator for the Faculty of Business at Athabasca University. In addition, Sue has worked in the field of psychiatry for 10 years at the Calgary Foothills Hospital with in-patient chronic and acute care youth, adults, and geriatric patients. In 1996, Sue was certified in both the Canadian Language Benchmark Assessment (CLBA) and Canadian Language Benchmark Literacy Assessment (CLBLA). In 2002, Sue successfully completed assessor training for the Canadian Language Benchmark Placement Test (CLBPT). As our most experienced assessor, she conducts most of our Citizenship and Immigration Assessments here in Lethbridge and Brooks. Recently, Sue completed CLBPT literacy training and as of August 2008 she is an accredited ELTPA assessor.

Lucelle has ESL, academic upgrading, and college English teaching experience, in addition to an extensive assessment and curriculum development background. She received her language assessment training in 2006 and is part of the SALAS team that conducts assessments for private companies, providing cost and benefit information to interested employers. Lucelle, SALAS Ltd. President, completed CLBPT literacy assessment and in August 2008 qualified to administer the Enhanced Language Training Placement Assessment. Lucelle provides supervision of the CIC Contribution Agreement, the AEI Agreement, and all private company contracts.
