Language Assessment

Language Assessment... What? Where?

SALAS uses four different language assessments. One of them will be right for you! You might need the literacy assessment (CLBLA), the more in‑depth assessment (CLBA), the shorter Placement Test (CLBPT) or the assessment for trained professionals (ELTPA).

All four assessments are conducted at your convenience in our SALAS office in downtown Lethbridge or at the Brooks Community Adult Learning Centre.

However, these assessments can also be given in your community; just call to make arrangements. Each client receives a Language Portfolio including the results of the assessment and referral information.

Most clients use the language assessment information to begin English language classes, to seek career/vocational counselling, or to start employment after a shorter English course. The assessors will discuss your options with you.

Some clients use the language benchmarks to meet the necessary language standards required for their occupation. Current established standards (speaking, listening, reading, and writing) are  4 4 4 2 for workers in the food processing industry. And, for semi-skilled workers the established benchmarks are 4 4 4 & 4 for the CLBPT for application under the Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program..
